Honda Civic horn wiring diagram for the Honda Civic 2006. This diagram applies to Honda Civic FD also known as Honda Civic Eight Generation or Honda Civic model years 2006-2011.

The horn system (Figure 1) is composed of the battery, the 15-ampere fuse, the horn relay which is built into the MICU, the cable reel, the horn switch, and the two horns (Low Horn and High Horn). The horns are activated by the horn switch located on the center of the steering wheel. Because of the high current requirement of the two (2) horns, a relay is used by the MICU to turn on the horns when the horn switch is pressed. Notice the transistor in series with the coil relay which is basically in parallel with the horn switch. It is used as a part of the security alarm system. The horn is continuously switched on and off by the transistor during an alarm activation.

Replace a defective key fob with two (2) fob remote controllers for a cost of six (6) dollars!!! I have done this on a Honda Civic 2006. For some unknown reason, the key fob remote controller for my Honda Civic 2006 suddenly stopped working. I replaced the battery but still it would not work. Because replacing the original key fob is very expensive, I decided to find another solution. The solution – install a new keyless entry system or central door lock system.

There are many cheap keyless entry systems on the internet and they usually come with two (2) fob remote controllers. The one that I bought and installed is shown in the picture above. It was around $6 then when I bought it here. It is already sold out but it is available in great quantity from China.

Why and How the Trick Works

When a key fob remote controller fails to lock or unlock the doors, you can manually lock or unlock them. Use the ignition key to lock or unlock the driver’s door. Using the ignition key on the driver’s door latch has the same exact effect as the key fob remote. It locks or unlocks the doors and at the same time arms or disarms the security alarm system. By design, the ignition key is the backup for the key fob remote controller.

The driver’s door latch has a switch that the ignition key turns to either Lock or Unlock position. If we connect a new keyless entry system like the one pictured above to the driver’s door latch switch, we can simulate the locking and unlocking of the doors by the ignition key. Consequently, we can now lock and unlock the doors (also arm and disarm the alarm) by using the new keyless entry system’s two (2) brand new fob remote controllers. In effect, we are able to replace the defective key fob with two new fob remote controllers.

Keyless Entry System on Honda Civic 2006

The diagram below shows how the different door lock switches are connected to the MICU (Multiplex Integrated Control Unit) that controls the locking and unlocking of the doors in a Honda Civic 2006.

For a complete circuit diagram of Honda Civic 2006 Keyless System, Power Door Locks, and Security System, please see Honda Civic 2006 Security System Diagrams

Figure 1. Diagram of Honda Civic 2006 Central Door Lock Switches

How to Install the Keyless Entry System to Replace a Defective Key Fob

On a Honda Civic 2006, it is very simple to connect the keyless entry system. As shown in Figure 2, we only need to connect four wires. Please refer to Figure 1 and Figure 2.

YELLOW/GREEN wire to Driver’s Door Key Cylinder Switch LOCK wire (PNK)

BLACK/WHITE wire to Driver’s Door Key Cylinder Switch UNLOCK wire (BRN)

RED wire to Car Battery’s Positive Terminal

BLACK wire to Chassis Ground

The RED wire for the positive12V supply must be wired to an unswitched 12V supply. If the keyless entry system control unit is to be installed under the dashboard near the ignition key switch, a good place to get the 12V is from the BATTERY terminal of the ignition key switch.

Note that there is no need to connect the two (2) GRAY wires to the LEFT and RIGHT turn signal lights. The existing keyless system will blink the turn signals when locking and unlocking the doors.

If you want a chirp sound when locking and unlocking the doors, you may want to connect the PURPLE wire to a siren horn.

Circuit diagrams for the Honda Civic 2006 security system. The diagrams are applicable to Honda Civic FD (Eight Generation). That is, Honda Civic model year 2006-2011. The diagrams include the Keyless Entry System, the Power Door Locks, and the Security System with its Immobilizer System. These diagrams should facilitate understanding and troubleshooting of problems with the above-mentioned systems. Also, these diagrams are of great help if you intend to install or troubleshoot an installed aftermarket alarm system.

The heart of the system here is the MICU (Multiplex Integrated Control Unit). The MICU is located under the dashboard fuse/relay box. As can be seen from the diagrams, the MICU receives its inputs from different switches. It then drives several relays to activate the door actuators. Additionally, it controls the hazard lights (left turn and right turn signal lights) and the security horn.

Honda Civic 2006 Security System Power Source

Figure 1 details how the MICU receives power from the battery. The whole MICU is powered from the battery thru a 100A fuse (No. 1). From the 100A fuse, a 50A fuse powers the MICU by passing thru the ignition switch. Two sets of fuses provide continuous, unswitched power to two separate circuits. One of them, the 40A fuse (No. 4) in series with a 20A fuse (No. 25) provides power to the Lock and Unlock relays and its accompanying door actuators. The second one, a 10A fuse (No. 23) powers the Keyless Receiver Unit.

Power Door Locks (a.k.a. Central Locking System)

Figure 1 also shows how the power door lock switches are wired. There are six switches that control the door lock actuators. Four of them are shown in Figure 1 and the other two (2) are located in Figure 2. The six switches are

Driver’s Door Lock Switch

Driver’s Door Key Cylinder Switch

Driver’s Door Lock Knob Switch

Front Passenger’s Lock Knob Switch

Left Rear Lock Knob Switch

Right Rear Lock Know Switch

When installing an aftermarket car alarm system on a Honda Civic, the alarm’s central locking system is tapped (connected) on the Driver’s Door Lock Switch. Connect the aftermarket alarm’s Lock wire the BLU wire and the Lock wire to the GRY wire.

The four (4) door lock actuators that are controlled by these six (6) switches are shown in Figure 2. There is one door lock actuator for each of the four (4) doors: the driver’s door, front passenger’s door, left rear door, and the right rear door.

Keyless Entry System

In Figure 2, we can see the diagram for the Keyless Receiver Unit. This unit is responsible for receiving the Lock and Unlock signals from the fob key remote controller. The remote controller locks or unlocks the door wirelessly. At the same time, it either arms or disarms the security alarm system.

Security Alarm System

Another system in Figure 2 above is the security alarm system. It shows that the MICU controls the hazard lights (turn signal lights) and the security horn. If the car model has the super-locking feature, it includes another set of four (4) door lock actuators. This is detailed in Figure 3 below (inside the dotted rectangle).
